Reason for the establishment of
Centre of Excellence
The school was established due to fill a gap in the Eastern Cape. The gap was that there was no full-time tuition that was being given to learners who wanted to re-write their Matric. The school was established to accommodate learners who wanted to rewrite their matric but were struggling and having a challenge of studying on their own, leading to their results not improving.
The Department of Basic Education was offering them a chance to rewrite their exams in the subjects which they wanted to improve only but not a chance to get back to class. That was the main reason for the establishment of the school; offering a chance in improving their matric results. This meant that learners will attend classes to prepare them for rewriting their exams in the respective subjects that they have applied to improve in the Department of Basic Education.
Centre of Excellence
Narrative History
Since the school was established due to the gap that was there for learners who wanted to rewrite their matric exams; the school was operating initially as a finishing school. As a result, the only job was to offer tuition. The main target were the matric rewrites. After 3 to 4 years as a finishing school, the school applied to the Department of Basic Education that it may run as a full-time operating school.
Then the school was accredited function from Grade 8 to Grade 10. Due to the growth of the school and matric rewriting results which were good, the school was allowed to operate from Grade 8 to Grade 12, which meant that the school can have a Centre number so that the school can control and run the matric examinations as from the year 2009.
The finishing school was still running concurrently with full-time tuition for Grade 8 to Grade 12. As time went by, the school realized that the matric rewrites which were the main purpose of the establishment of the school were having poor attendance therefore the poor attendance affected their results negatively.
Due to the results of the re-writes not improving much, in 2011 the school offered every learner who wanted to repeat full-time a chance to do so that is starting their School Based Assessments afresh therefore affording the learners an opportunity to re-do their Matric. All this time the school was operating in the CBD at number 4 Hudson House Terminus Street East London. As years went by the school was growing exceedingly as the matric results were excellent, therefore the school applied to expand from Grade 1 to Grade 12.
As a result, the school moved from its premises which were 4 Hudson House to number 4 St Marks Road (Grade 7 to Grade 12) and number 6 St Marks Road (Grade 1 to Grade 6) Southernwood. Also, the school continued to grow, eventually in 2020 due to the growth, the school acquired new premises at number 4 Lukin Road, Berea. As much as the moving was not swift due to COVID-19 regulations, the campus accommodates the Grade 7s, 11s and Grade 12s.
